This sector is particularly directed towards the future. Working strategies are being developed to deal with the problem of reducing the use of synthetic chemical molecules and exploiting those already found in nature, in certain plants (biodegradable, renewable, and which do not lead to addiction).
With a view to exploiting plant products in the prevention and curing of human disorders, research is being carried out on the increasing or decreasing of benzodiazepine contents in plants. The monitoring of these substances has highlighted a variability in the contents in potato, bean, tomato and wheat (species analysed up until now). It is thought that with breeding it is possible to obtain genotypes free of or with large quantities of these molecules, to be used in the diet of individuals who should not take benzodiazepine (suffering from liver diseases) and in subjects who require it (to calm states of insomnia or anxiety).
